Beyond the Gate: the new frontier
Imagine an "instrument for living" that might not only serve as your home base but also be agile enough to follow you into the mountains when you want to escape and explore.
"Beyond the Gate" brings together an investigation of expanding mountain resorts and the growth of extreme sports within them and beyond their controlled boundaries.
With the idea that the mountain has itself become a very specific piece of sports equipment, the Mountain Pod was envisioned as a new role for architecture within these sports and the resort landscape. The Mountain Pod becomes a toolbox for the snow rider, creating a"home" and "office" that can explore the terrain just as a mountaineer might. Inspiration for the design looks to the technology, tools, and materials used within the sports and industries supporting these adventurers.
